Projects
Application DesignA collection of mobile design projects while employed at HomesnapApple Watch
I led the design for the first generation Watch. It was initially a pretty challenging project, with Homesnap trying to release the app right with the planned release of the physical hardware. We had to make a lot of assumptions based on early Apple marketing materials and some early developer documentation and did our best to setup up a quick alignment pass after we could get our hands on the real device.
The platform is very reductive, which is also challenging considering mobile-first thinking typically already reduces features so much. In the end, we nailed the design and the first Homesnap for Apple Watch app was released shortly after the hardware came onto the market.
Agent Safety Timer
A large percentage of real estate agents are women, and, at the time of design, there was an uptick in agents being preyed upon while showing homes. Homesnap sought to help address the issue with a new safety timer feature. I had the opportunity to lead the design and marketing efforts (including creating and recording the video above) for the feature. Watch the video to see how it works.
I focused on making things simple and accessible. Realizing that 99% of the time, the agent needs to either A) Add more time, or, B) Quickly cancel the timer, I worked to make it clear to the agent when time was running down and added user-friendly features to quickly adjust the countdown duration. I also added an instant distress button to the design with a dead-man's switch (it will issue the alert unless the progress bar is interrupted). View the web designs to see a full feature breakdown. Agent LoginOne of my first projects at Homesnap was to redesign the user login flow. I created all UI & UX elements seen in the video, including the daylight transition animations surrounding the home. Homesnap is just one app, but it serves up different end user experiences for its two basic personas: Consumers and Real Estate Agents. The flow had to work easily for both without confusion.
I worked to keep the various options as simple as possible given the range of sign in options. Low friction was key, even more so for agents who sometimes are not as tech-savvy as you would think. In addition to the design work, the login screen became a key visual for Homesnap in 2014-2015, and we used it to unify marketing efforts and branding, including in the App Store. Homesnap Pro: Business - Connected AgentsAs part of my overall work on the Homesnap Pro: Business product suite, one area of focus was on connecting agents and agencies together. Think of it as LinkedIn for real estate agents. I created the above animation (used in an email blast) to explain the core concept behind the designs we built in the app.
Part of being a successful real estate agent is staying on top of your competition and networking to keep aware of new homes coming on the market, regional sales figures, and recruiting for your agency. The design focused on keeping connection-making simple while delivering the power of big data into the hands of agents. Learn more by visiting the Homesnap Pro: Business product design page. |
